In the bible, God gave Moses the 10 Commandments to give to the people, so they would obey Him, and we learned they are not perfect human beings. Health is the same way, we cannot be perfect and we all have flaws. A healthy lifestyle often takes a backseat.
However, achieving my health and weight loss, I found out these Ten Commandments, can pave the way to a healthier, more balanced life.
1. Thou Shalt Honor Your Sleep:
Prioritize quality sleep, aiming for 7-9 hours each night. A consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime and sticking to it, ensures that thy sleep environment to rest. Results do not come from training alone, but in recovery.
2. Thou Shalt Embrace Weight Training:
Incorporate weight training into your routine, for it builds muscle mass, increases your resting metabolism, and helps overall strength. You need strength to function day to day. Without strength you are more at risk of injury, body pain, and illnesses.
3. Thou Shalt Control Calories:
To maintain a healthy weight, you need calorie control. Be mindful of portion sizes, choose whole nutrient-dense foods, and listen to thy body's cues of hunger and fullness. It's simple, your body burns a natural amount of calories daily.
You want to gain weight? Eat more; You want to lose weight? Eat less.
4. Thou Shalt Stay Hydrated:
Thou shalt drink an ungodly amount of water. When God got angry with the world in Genesis, he flooded it, and cleansed it new. Water now takes up 70% of the earth, it's all around us what we use to clean everything, and you can cleanse out your body by intaking a certain amount of water for your activity level.
5. Thou Shalt Go Outside:
Spend time outdoors daily, soaking in the sun. DO NOT let your body lack Vitamin D. It helps your immunity. Try supplements during the winter months.
6. Thou Shalt Move Daily:
Aim to walk around 10,000 steps daily. Simple and effective means to your cardio health, boosting your mood, and maintaining fitness. Invest in a smart watch tracker to monitor thy steps and derive motivation. Don't be a couch potato.
7. Thou Shalt Eat High-Protein:
Your diet shalt include lean protein sources like chicken, fish, beans, and meals, for protein is essential for muscle growth, repair, and overall health. Protein powder is an easy hack to get a large amount to soak up muscles, like a sponge.
Aim to eat 1 gram daily of protein per pound of your body weight.
8. Thou Shalt Find Accountability:
Find a support system, whether through a workout partner, a nutrition friend, or an online community. You cannot do it all alone. Find a good community that keeps you accountable. Accountability helps commitment and motivation on thy journey. I offer custom plans and one on one training to help guide you through your journey.
9. Thou Shalt Define Thy Purpose:
Understand your 'why' behind your pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. Whether it be for increased energy, a longer life, or confidence, a clear purpose shall keep thee focused and steadfast.
10. Thou Shalt Invest in Thyself:
Invest time and resources in yourself. Engage in your education, practice self-care, and take part in activities that bring joy. For investing in thyself is key to overall well-being. Your mental health is part of your physical health.
The commandments show us how faulty we can be. Is there any of these you commonly don't do? I can certainly tell you I am not perfect. Obedience is what we can start to do to get back on the healthy track.
